Kishori Mani has spent long time in the surrounding villages around Sri Mayapur dham, West Bengal, and while getting to know their inhabitants she also took a considerate number of photos. Her work succeeds in the intent to make their unheard stories known.
She has a very clear way to achieve her objectives through an excellent use of the media she chooses: digital photography, lead pencil, color pencils and oil paint. Clarity of shading and sense of color convey the purity and innocence of her subjects.
Extreme attention to detail, unfinished areas, blurred backgrounds and contrast of colors, underline the prominence of these people' stares, from whose eyes shines a mysterious all pervading light.
Her main inspiration is the work of realist painter Charles E. Goldie, (New Zealand, 1870-1947)
